Abstract
Uterine artery embolisation is rapidly gaining widespread acceptance as an alternative to surgery for the treatment of symptoms related to uterine myo mas. We used gelatin sponge pledgets to embolise 13 women with symptomic ut erine myomas. Our results suggest that the effectiveness of this temporary embolic agent is similar to that of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). If larger stud ies corroborate this finding, we may be able to offer this procedure to wom en who wish to preserve their fertility.
