Ea. Sergienko et al., EARLY VISUAL DEPRIVATION - LOCAL DISTURBA NCE OF VISUAL FUNCTIONS OF GENERALIZED CHANGE OF PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT, Psihologiceskij zurnal, 14(5), 1993, pp. 48-66
Results of a longitudinal study of early visual deprivation influence
(in the case of innate bilateral cataract) on child mental development
are presented. The systematic complex study of visual deprivation is
carried out for the first time. The data on specificity of a child's b
ehavioral, cognitive, social and affective interactions and its' brain
mechanisms are obtained. li was concluded that early visual deprivati
on results both in local disturbances of visual functions and in gener
alized changes in psychophysiological development. The necessity of or
ganization of a complex diagnostic and correction center for children
with the disturbances of that kind arises from the given study.
