Molecular ion centers (XeAr)(4) in solid Ne were produced by deposition of
an ion-containing gas on a cooled substrate. Laser-induced fluorescence (LI
F) and excitation yield were studied in the range of transitions between th
e ground state of the ionic centers and the lower excited states related to
the P-2(1/2), P-2(3/2) limits of Xe+. The fluorescence of (XeAr)(+) exhibi
ts a vibrational structure with a spacing between the peaks of the fluoresc
ence progression of about omega(e) = 11.1 meV. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.
