Strong electron tunneling effects in the single-electron box are investigat
ed by means of a path integral Monte Carlo analysis. Our results for the ef
fective capacitance of the box are compared to previous theoretical predict
ions and Monte Carlo simulations. We discuss the accuracy of our simulation
s and convergence of our results as a function of the Trotter number used i
