Abstract
Aerial photos of the Ob' river floodplain were processed automatically . The results of the processing were compared with the soil map compil ed in the course of a soil survey. It was proved that both 5-class and 12-class regional classifications insured a 60-100% reliability for d etermination of the soils within the delineations at the taxonomic lev el of types and groups of types of alluvial soils. The results gained at the subtype level proved to be ambiguous.
