Abstract
A mathematical model is developed describing the behavior of Cs-137 in the soils of grassland ecosystems and its uptake by plants. The model parameters were determined using experimental data obtained in the so -called 50-km zone of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP). Verif ication of the model with independent data revealed that the changes i n the biological availability of Cs-137 in the soil are described corr ectly, and the model can be used to forecast the radionuclide behavior in grassland ecosystems.
