Inflammatory responses and mediators

Organisms respond to injury by attempting to restore homeostasis, which inv olves a coordination of the immune, inflammatory, cardiovascular, endocrine , and nervous systems. In most situations, the host mounts an appropriate r esponse in most situations. At times, however, deviation occurs, and inflam mation may be sustained, leading to systemic inflammatory response syndrome , multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and, at times, death.
