We report on the design, manufacturing and testing of Alq(3)/polyvinylcarba
zole (PVK) light emitting devices. The devices were obtained by spin coatin
g PVK films on indium tin oxide coated glass substrates. Alq(3) films were
then deposited by high vacuum thermal evaporation. The devices were topped
by depositing magnesium/silver electrodes by thermal evaporation. After dep
osition, the samples were stored and operated under a nitrogen atmosphere i
n order to prevent damage due to oxidation. The thickness of the active lay
ers was purposely chosen to be large in order to study the device with an e
