Abstract
The replacement of environmentally harsh sodium hydroxide by alkaline pecti nase in cotton preparation has the potential to revolutionize wet processin g internationally. Using this enzyme decreases both effluent load and prepa ration costs. The mechanism of enzymatic preparation and dyeing characteris tics of the resulting cotton are discussed.
