The introduction of chickenpox onto our renal unit recently raised sev
eral issues surrounding the management of patient and staff contacts.
This paper describes the action taken and makes various recommendation
s for future management of similar cases. Guidelines are proposed for
the management of patients and staff as well as the role of the infect
ion control team in handling a chickenpox problem. Future developments
, including the use of VZ vaccine for patient and staff, are also disc
ussed.
