Experience with checking potentially contaminated materials released to the environment and testing of the measuring instruments used

Several systems with large area plastic scintillators were tested, which ar e used to avoid the undesirable and illegal transport of radioactive materi als especially at border crossings, in metallurgical works and in plants pr ocessing metal scrap. were tested. Measuring equipment with germanium detec tors, which is used for check of material released from the Dukovany Nuclea r Power Plant, was also tested. The detection possibilities of a chamber wi th plastic scintillators, for the use during checking of materials released to the environment, were investigated. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
