Lp. Smirnov et Sd. Kiriljuk, EFFECT OF ENVIRONMENTAL-POLLUTION ON THE FRACTIONAL COMPOSITION OF LOW-MOLECULAR-WEIGHT PEPTIDES FROM DIFFERENT TISSUES OF THE WHITEFISH, Izvestia Akademii nauk SSSR. Seria biologiceskaa, (4), 1994, pp. 617-622
The composition of peptides with molecular mass below 10 kDa was studi
ed by column chromatography on Toyopearl HW-40F in the liver of whitef
ish (Coregonus lavaretus) caught in the Kola Peninsula water bodies wi
th different degree of pollution, as well as in the whitefish larvae t
reated with the mining-concentration plant sewage al different dilutio
ns. Contamination of water bodies with the mining-concentration plant
sewage leads to quantitative changes in the fractions of peptides resu
lting in the increased proportion of components absorbing at 250 nm. A
conclusion was drawn that the whitefish tissues contain metallothione
ine-like low molecular weight oligopeptides.
