Mossbauer spectroscopy was applied to analyze the iron compounds in atmosph
eric aerosol. Seasonal variations of iron concentration in atmospheric air
measured over twenty years in Poland are discussed. It was observed that th
e concentration of iron sulfides (FeS, FeS2) related to coal combustion dro
pped significantly, however, concentration of iron oxides and iron oxyhydro
xides related to fuel combustion increased.
