Abstract
In this paper we develop a globally stabilizing stability-based switching c ontroller for a three-state lumped parameter centrifugal compressor surge m odel. The proposed model involves pressure and mass flow compression system dynamics as well as spoof dynamics to account for the influence of speed t ransients on the compression surge dynamics. The proposed nonlinear switchi ng controller architecture involves throttle and compressor torque regulati on and is directly applicable to compression systems with actuator amplitud e and rate saturation constraints.
