Comprehensive experiments and analysis were conducted on SONY CD-ROM drives
to derive a model of the sled system, with an emphasis on dynamic analysis
of sled friction. Our study featured a novel method of friction analysis,
in which all the measurements were conducted in transient period and all th
e calculations were transferred from the time domain to the velocity domain
, and a new concept of elastic effect in sled systems, which gave a reasona
ble explanation of the oscillatory phenomenon in sled movement. The simulat
ion results based on the derived model agreed well with the experimental da
ta and repeated comparisons revealed the model's reliability. This confirme
d the model's practicability in developing high-performance sled servos and
track jump controllers.
