K. Teunissen et al., THE OPTIMAL GLASS TRANSMISSION COEFFICIENT AS A FUNCTION OF THE LEVELOF DIFFUSE AMBIENT ILLUMINATION, Displays, 17(2), 1997, pp. 94-99
This paper describes how, in a consumer television application, the gl
ass transmission coefficient of a CRT (or plasma) display should vary
as a function of the illumination level (measured on the display) in o
rder to obtain optimal perceived quality. The study was concerned with
the perceptual evaluation of five identical television sets, but with
different glass transmission coefficients, on quality and six quality
-related perceptual attributes. The results show how the optimal trans
mission coefficient depends on the diffuse ambient illumination. and h
ow the overall quality depends on the individual quality-related attri
butes. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
