Abstract
The increasing use of both the C-band and L-band transmission windows is de manding more-sophisticated gain-flattened optical amplifiers. Designers hav e demonstrated with modeling software that gain can be optimized by balanci ng fiber length and gain-flattening filter shape and that multipath interfe rence can also be minimized.
