Abstract
To elucidate estrogen functions, the expression of the estrogen receptor-re lated receptor ERR gamma, a novel orphan nuclear receptor regulating transc ription via estrogen responsive elements, has been localized by in situ hyb ridization in adult murine brain. ERR gamma transcripts were abundantly pre sent in the isocortex, the olfactory system, cranial nerve nuclei and major parts of the coordination centers, e.g. reticular formation and major part s of the extrapyramidal motor systems. In addition, ERR gamma expression wa s detected in trigeminal ganglion neurons. ERR gamma distribution was clear ly distinguished from that described fur ERR alpha, for ERR beta, and for e strogen receptors (ER) pointing at functional differences between ERR gamma and these receptors.
