Abstract
Design features, functionality, and expected performance are reviewed for t he silicon charged particle track detectors to be used by the Collider Dete ctor at Fermilab (CDF) during the upcoming Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron. The original design has been supplemented by addition of a new layer of si licon mounted on the beam pipe that improves the vertexing performance of t he combined assembly. Progress has been made in many areas of design and co nstruction of the silicon sensors, readout electronics, and associated syst ems. The resulting detector array should provide substantial improvements i n coverage and performance over those of previous CDF silicon vertex detect ors. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
