Abstract
A convenient relation between fractional Fourier transform patterns and dif fraction patterns is obtained by applying the Gauss equation of geometrical optics. Thus, Fresnel and fractional domains cannot be considered as indep endent domains, since one is just a geometrical image of the other, providi ng a physical and direct connection.
