The development of an automated distributed fiber optic sensor based on the
Brillouin loss principle is presented. A description of the system configu
ration and signal processing techniques used in the measurement and control
system are included. The system can achieve 0.5-m spatial resolution with
+/- 1 degrees C temperature or +/- 20 mu m/m strain measurement precision.
