Abstract
A strong orientation effect is theoretically predicted in a suggested modif ied experiment on anomalous elastic scattering of linearly polarized X-rays by free oriented in space HF and HCl molecules near the ionization thresho ld of the 1 sigma molecular orbital. The analytic expression for the form f actor of a linear molecule is determined for the case of one-center nonrela tivistic representation of the wave functions of molecular orbitals.
