Abstract
A simplified theory for imaging in confocal microscope is introduced. This can be used to model images of various structures under different polarisat ion conditions, and with finite sized detector pinholes. In particular, sim ple expressions and numerical results are given for the axial resolution fo r a planar specimen. The effects of polarisation are investigated.
