Abstract
TAMA is a Japanese joint project to build a 300 m baseline interferome ter called TAMA300 which is now under construction at Mitaka, Tokyo. T he motivation for this project is to develop techniques that are neces sary for a future kilometre-sized interferometric detector and to catc h any rare events occurring in nearby galaxies. The project, the inter ferometer and the construction status are reported in this paper.
