Abstract
This paper reports the results of experimental measurements of ternary liqu id-liquid equilibria (LLE), densities, and refractive indices of the system methyl acetate + methanol + water, and the binary system methyl acetate water at 298.15 K, and atmospheric pressure. Values of densities, and refra ctive indices are measured, and compared by different methods, and mixing r ules. Excess molar volumes, and changes of refractive index on mixing were computed from experimental data, a set of empirical equations which are dep endent of binary derived contributions being applied. A comparative analysi s was performed by application of different group contribution methods to p redict experimental LLE behaviour of this ternary mixture.
