The kinetics of formation of IPO thermosetting binder in reaction of partia
l esters of norbornene-dicarboxylic and 3,3',4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxyl
ic acids with 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane was studied by IR spectroscopy. O
n mixing in an alcoholic solution, the initial agents spontaneously form H
complexes. Quantum-chemical calculations were performed for two alternative
mechanisms involving acylation of diamines with partial esters within the
H complex and acylation of diamines with anhydrides formed from partial eat
ers after decomposition of the H-complex.
