The heat capacity of 1-methylcyclopentanol was measured on a triple heat br
idge unit in the temperature range 290-380 K, and the thermodynamic charact
eristics of its vitrification were estimated. A procedure for calculating t
he enthalpy of formation of holes (molecular vacancies) and the volume rati
o between molecules and holes in liquid 1-methyl-1-chlorocyclopentane and 1
-methylcyclopentanol is suggested; the calculations use the heat capacity j
ump of the glass --> metastable liquid phase transition and the enthalpies
of vaporization of the substances. The orientation components of the residu
al entropies of the compounds in the vitreous state were determined.
