Abstract
An efficient system for plant regeneration from leaf explants has been work ed out. Gene transformation of a medicinal plant Rhaponticum carthamoides ( Willd.) Iljin with a recombinant strain of Agrobacterium tumefaciens GV 310 1 containing plasmid with the gene rolC was performed for the first time. P CR analysis of DNA from transformed shoots showed that the genome comprised the copies of rolC and nptII genes.
