Abstract
The strain sensitivity of the fluorescence intensity ratio temperature-sens ing technique has been measured to be (2 +/- 3) x 10(-4)%/mu epsilon in Yb3 +-doped fiber, implying a temperature-to-strain cross sensitivity of(2 +/- 3) x 10(-4) degrees C/mu epsilon. The near-zero strain sensitivity means th at this optical-fiber sensor technique is well. suited for temperature meas urement in strain-affected environments. (C) 2000 Optical Society of Americ a.
