We present the first results of the Karhunen-Loeve eigenmodes applied to re
al data of the Las Campanas Redshift Survey to simultaneously measure the v
alues of the redshift distortion parameter beta = Omega(0)(0.6)/b, the line
arly extrapolated normalization sigma(8)(L), and the cold dark matter shape
parameter Gamma = Omega(0)h. The results of our numerical likelihood analy
sis indicate a low value of beta = 0.30 +/- 0.39, a shape parameter Gamma =
0.16 +/- 0.10, and a linearly extrapolated normalization sigma(8)(L) = 0.7
9 +/- 0.08, which are consistent with a low-density universe (Omega(0) less
than or similar to 0.5).
