Abstract
Although evolutionary inference from molecular sequences is a statistical p roblem, little attention has been paid to questions of experimental design. A computer program, EDIBLE, has been developed to perform likelihood calcu lations based on Markov process models of nucleotide substitution allied wi th phylogenetic trees, and from these to compute Fisher information measure s under different experimental designs, These calculations can be used to a nswer questions of optimal experimental design in molecular phylogenetics.
