The study of social stratification was done In the sample of 1074 young peo
ple (aging 18 to 22 years). Determinants of social status formation were se
arched for In reassuming findings other author. The analysis of obtained da
ta confirmed the significance of parents, education and profession for the
integration of young people to social groups and positions. Regarding the f
act that almost a half of respondents is not professionally stabilized yet
(31.8 % are studying, further are unemployed! the professional status of th
e primary family shows the higher influence on their social status. The inf
luence of material status shows somewhat less significant. The outlasting i
nadequate rewarding without clear relation between professional demands of
work and the earnings level in the Czech republic can be proposed as an exp
lanation for that. A considerable subjectivity of perception in the classif
ication Into the status groups is the next found tendency, In the group wit
h the highest status there is a tendency to underestimate slightly and on t
he contrary in lower groups rather to overestimate the material component.
The political preferences of subjects from higher social groups are oriente
d to the right-wing parties, with decreasing social status the unconcern in
politics and in the political parties activities increases.
