Zircons from the Blond leucogranite (NW Limousin, French Massif Central) ha
ve been dated by U/Pb isotope analysis on the CAMECA IMS 1270 ion-probe fac
ility at CRPG-CNRS. The obtained age of 319 +/- 7 Ma, different from previo
us Rb/Sr whole rock isochron age determination (301 +/- 5 Ma), integrates t
his granite in the Late Hercynian history of the Limousin, together with ot
her Namuro-Westphalian granitoids. U/Pb isotope ion-probe analysis of zirco
ns appears to be a particularly useful method for dating relatively recent
highly fractionated granites. (C) 2000 Academie des sciences / Editions sci
