F. Lopez-rios et al., Extracranial metastasis of a glioma: Diagnosis by fine-needle aspiration and immunocytochemistry, DIAGN CYTOP, 23(1), 2000, pp. 43-45
Fine-Needle aspiration cylology (FNAC) is a well-established method for the
rapid diagnosis of metastatic neoplasms. A case of metostatic glioma to th
e neck is presented. Diagnosis was made by FNAC combined with immunocytolog
ical techniques (glial fibrillar acidic protein). To the best of our knowle
dge, three have only been six previous cases of metastatic gliomas diagnose
d by FNAC. FNAC, combined with clinical history and immunocytochemistry, is
a rapid and reliable method in the definitive diagnosis of metastatic glio
mas. (C) 2000 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
