Abstract
In this article, a novel 1.7 kW Axial Flux Interior PM (AFIPM) synchronous motor for wheel-motors applications is presented. The new rotor structure a llows improvement of the motor flux density waveform and increasing the flu x: weakening capability. The design analysis is performed by using the Fini te Element Method (FEM) in addition to the classical electric motors method design. Complete design data of the prototype under study are presented. F inally, the calculated motor parameter value are compared with the experime ntal measurements.
