F. Szocs et al., FATIGUE EFFECTS ON THE FREE-RADICAL STABILITY IN IRRADIATED POLYPROPYLENE FILLED WITH SILICA, Materials letters, 31(3-6), 1997, pp. 287-289
Free radicals were generated in a composite of polypropylene filled wi
th silica by the effect of gamma radiation and subsequently they were
measured by the ESR method. The concentrations of free radicals were d
etermined in the course of gradual heating of the samples in the inter
val from -50 to 100 degrees C. The concentrations of free radicals in
the samples fatigued by simple bending were higher than the concentrat
ions of free radicals in non-fatigued samples. The gradual fatigue of
material brings about a change in structure and a decrease in mobility
of the polymer chains owing to which the decay of free radicals is in
hibited.
