Anomalous intensity fluctuations are observed in the spectrum of radiative
recombination of quasi-two-dimensional (2D) electrons with photoexcited hol
es in a single quantum well. The fluctuations are observed exclusively unde
r the conditions of the quantum Hall effect (QHE). It is shown that, if the
QHE conditions are not fulfilled, the radiation intensity fluctuates stric
tly following the Poisson distribution (<delta N-2> / < N > = 1), whereas i
n the QHE regime the fluctuation amplitude increases by several orders of m
agnitude (<delta N-2> / < N > similar to 10(2)). It is demonstrated that th
e maxima of the emission noise amplitude coincide with the maxima of invers
e magnetoresistance of 2D electrons in the QHE regime and correspond to est
ablishing an anomalously high uniformity of the system. (C) 2000 MAIK "Nauk
