Because congenital ptosis is associated with poor levator function, surgica
l therapy frequently relies on the frontalis muscle to elevate the upper ey
elid. Many current techniques employ alloplastic or autogenous materials, w
ith their inherent advantages and disadvantages, to link the frontalis musc
le to the eyelid.(1-6) However, autogenous tissues remain the material of c
hoice. We describe an autogenous frontalis muscle nap technique and a retro
spective review of our initial 5 cases. The operation improved the ptosis i
n all 5 cases, producing an excellent Linkage between the frontalis muscle
and the upper eyelid. Good elevation and smooth contour of the upper eyelid
margins were achieved.
