Abstract
Fully developed forced-convection heat transfer in a cylindrical packe d bed is examined theoretically based on a two-dimensional, distribute d parameter model incorporating the effects of non-Darcy, variable por osity and radial thermal dispersion. The validity of the present heat- transfer model is addressed in comparison with available experimental data. Several system parameters such as the Prandtl number Pr, the rat io of the thermal conductivity of solid to that of fluid kappa, the be d radius to particle diameter ratio Gamma and the particle Reynolds nu mber Rep are varied systematically in the theoretical computations. It is found that the Nusselt number Nu(p) at RepPr-->0 takes a constant value depending on both kappa and Gamma, while Nu(p) for large RepPr d epends on both RepPr and Pr, but scarcely on kappa.
