Bernadine Healy, MD, became president and chief executive officer of the Am erican Red Cross in September, A cardiologist, she is the first medical doc tor to hold the position. Dr. Healy has served most recently as the Dean of the College of Medicine and Public Health, and as Professor of Medicine at the Ohio State University. She spent two years as the Director of the NIH; and before that appointment was Chair of the Research Institute of The Cle veland Clink Foundation, She is a Medical Consultant for CBS News and regul arly contributes to PBS's "Health Week." In an interview with JIM, Dr, Heal y spoke about the state of clinical research today, the impending changes a t NIH, and the future she sees for the American Red Cross.
