We investigate wavepacket localization in a model system consisting of a gr
ound symmetric double-well potential and an excited asymmetric double-well
potential. We show that, under specific conditions, the interaction of this
system with a sequence of short laser pulses can lead to wavepacket locali
zation in one of the ground state wells. This effect is similar to the inhi
bition of the coherent evolution in a closed V-type system via repeated mea
surements with a sequence of pulses, an example of the so-called quantum Ze
no effect.
