Nanocrystalline Al-60 Ni-40 and Ni have been obtained by rod milling Al and
Ni powder mixtures and chemically leaching Al atoms from rod-milled Al60Ni
40. The rod-milled alloy powders retained their bcc structure after being t
reated at 85 degrees C with a 30 wt% KOH solution. On cooling of the specim
en from 600 degrees C, spontaneous magnetization sharply increased at about
350 degrees C, indicating that the bcc phase was transformed to fee phase.
DC magnetic susceptibility measurements showed a single transition from th
e paramagnetic to the spin glass state below 45 K (T-f) The temperature beh
avior at T-f was quite different from field cooling (FC) and zero-held cool
ing (ZFC).
