Abstract
The method of computer simulations is employed to investigate the stabiliza tion of circular states of a hydrogen atom within a broad range of intensit ies and durations of laser pulses. We develop a qualitative analytical mode l of this phenomenon, allowing the dependences of the ionization probabilit y on the intensity and duration of laser pulses to be explained.
