Abstract
Novel long-chain acrylate based copolymers containing triphenylene groups h ave been synthesized which will open up new opportunities to synthesize dis cotic networks with columnar structure. This structure exists in the copoly mer even when a non-discotic comonomer is introduced up to 75 mol-%. The cr oss-linking of the material allows the creation of networks with columnar d iscotic structure. Orientation of the columnar LC phase can be achieved by stretching the network, which results in the alignment of the columns along the stretching axes.
