The improved RIDE (ring down elimination) sequence is presented that utiliz
es adiabatic inversion pulses. The most important advantages of the propose
d method include the excitation of the broad range of chemical shifts and t
he B-1 insensitive character of adiabatic inversion pulses. The superior ba
seline and phase properties of this experiment are demonstrated on the 60 k
Hz spectral width O-17 NMR spectra. Additionally, the effectiveness of the
adiabatic RIDE sequence is demonstrated by acquisition of the natural isoto
pic abundance O-17 NMR spectrum of gaseous acetone, which is reported for t
he first time. Copyright (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
