Abstract
The H-1 and C-13 NMR spectra of a series of eight hexenones and heptenones obtained from the self-condensation of butan-2-one were assigned using the gamma-gauche effect and two-dimensional NMR spectral techniques. The compou nds characterized are (E/Z)-5-methyl-4-hepten-3-one, (E/Z)-5-methyl-5-hepte n-3-one, (E/Z)-3,4-dimethyl-3-hexen-2-one and (E/Z)-3,4-dimethyl-4-hexen-2- one.
