Thermoelectric power studies of zinc-substituted nickel ferrites have been
investigated as a function of composition and temperature. On the basis of
the sign of the Seebeck coefficient (S), the ferrites under investigation h
ave been classified as n-type and p-type semiconductors. The values of char
ge carrier concentration have also been computed from the observed values o
f Seebeck coefficient. The variation of thermoelectric power and charge car
rier concentration has been discussed as a function of composition and temp
erature. On the basis of these results, an explanation for the conduction m
echanism in these ferrites is suggested. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All
