Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is present in all epidemiolo
gic forms of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). The KSHV genome contains several open r
eading frames which are potentially implicated in the development of KS. So
me are unique to KSHV; others are homologous to cellular genes. The putativ
e role of these genes in the genesis of KS is discussed. (C) 2000 Editions
