The emission and gain of a longitudinal wiggler in a parallel plate wavegui
de is discussed analytically, the features of the spectral lines have been
studied under the forward and backward slippage conditions and the gain of
the device studied extensively using the Madey theorem. The waveguide gain
spectra exhibits an entirely different picture from that of the free space
spectra. The gain amplitude is large at a higher resonant frequency as comp
ared to the lower frequency at finite slip and they come closer to the free
space resonant frequency as the slip get reduced. A broad-band negative ga
in spectrum is obtained at zero slip condition.
