Vc. Fernicola et al., FIBER OPTIC THERMOMETRY BASED ON CR-FLUORESCENCE IN OLIVINE CRYSTALS, Review of scientific instruments, 68(6), 1997, pp. 2418-2421
An investigation has been carried out into the use of two crystals of
the olivine family, forsterite and olivine, CrMg2SiO4 and Cr:(Mg,Fe) S
iO4, respectively, in optical fiber fluorescence thermometry. The resu
lts show that the Cr3+-based emission in the near-infrared is dominant
under pumping with light from a red diode laser, and a useful sensor
performance in the 200 degrees region around room temperature is seen
using probes constructed from these materials. (C) 1997 American Insti
